Eligibility for Outstanding Teen competition

To be eligible to compete in Miss Union County's Outstanding Teen Pageant contestants must meet the following requirements:

  • A single female that has never been married
  • Must be a minimum of 13 years of age by their first appearance in a local preliminary or state competition.
  • Can be no older than 17 years of age.
  • Must have no children.
  • Must be enrolled in and attending classes on a full time basis in an accredited, public, private or homeschooling program with passing scores.
  • Must be a resident of NJ.
  • Must meet the character criteria set by the Miss America Outstanding Teen Program.
  • Must not be eligible to compete on the Miss level in the Miss America Program at any point during the current pageant year.

Guidelines For Areas Of Competition

Talent (35% of overall score)

  • Talent presentations must not exceed 2 minutes.
  • Only the contestant will be permitted on stage during her talent presentation. No other person can be part of her performance
  • Talent presentations must be performed live.
  • Vocal performances must have accompanying music. A cappella performances are not permitted.
  • The use of fire, fireworks, swords, knives, live animals, and the removal of layers of clothing is not permitted.

Panel Interview (35% of overall score)

  • Contestants will wear a dress, business suit or other attire suitable for a job interview.
  • The interview will be panel style with the questions asked in "press conference style" by the judges.
  • The judge asking the first question is determined before the interview begins and, after that question, there is no predetermined order of questions.
  • Any judge may ask a question at any time.
  • There is no opening or closing statement
  • The total amount of time for interview will be six minutes.

Evening Wear / On Stage Question (20% of overall score)

  • Contestants will wear an appropriate formal evening gown of their choice.
  • Contestants will be asked one question on stage wearing their evening gown.

Physical Fitness (10% of overall score)

  • Contest will wear shorts, a purchased t-shirt (no bare midriffs), white sneakers and white socks.

Becoming a Contestant

The following items must be received by the deadline of October 31, 2011 so please allow sufficient time if mailing. Please have the information typed into the required forms or make sure you print legibly if hand written.

  2. Complete Notarized contract (pdf download)
  3. Copy of birth certificate
  4. Proof of residency i.e. drivers license, permit or school transcripts
  5. Platform Instructions (download instructions)
  6. Sample Platform (download sample)
  7. Resume Instructions (download instructions)
  8. Sample Resume (pdf sample)
  9. Talent Request Form (pdf ) | word ) (in case of 2 requests for the same music the contestant whose form is received first will be allowed to use the music)
  10. Contestant photo (we need a hardcopy 5x7 and an emailed photo for website)
  11. Music CD (no tapes and music cannot exceed 2 minutes in time)
  12. Entry fee of $150 and a t-shirt order of $15 (tshirt order form pdf | word)
  13. Scholarship rules and regulations. (will be given at orientation)
